Otherside Recording Studios is a recording studio NJ residents can rely on to get the job done right. Below is a list of the top ten questions we are asked prior to a recording session.
Q. How long does it take to record an album?
Q. How will recording my music/work benefit me personally?
Q. I'm a solo artist. How can I record an album with any music if I do not play an instrument?
Q. Do I have to bring in my own equipment?
Q. Do you provide studio musicians?
Q. How many musicians can your studio accommodate comfortably at one time?
Q. What genres of music do you specialize in recording?
Q. What hardware and/or software do you use to record?
Q. Can you re-master something that has already been recorded?
Q. How much will it cost for me to record my work?
A. The amount of time it takes to record an album depends on two factors. If you are well prepared you may be able to get an entire song done within an hour. The more well rehearsed you are coming into the studio, the less time you will have to spend in the studio. Practice makes perfect. If you know coming in what you want to sound like and what you want to accomplish, our staff can focus on making that happen. We work hard to make your music perfect. So if you come in with scattered thoughts be prepared to spend a little more time on your project. If you are prepared, time will not be an issue.
Q. How will recording my work benefit me personally?
A. There are several advantages to having your work recorded in a permanent digital audio mastering format. Whether you're working on a musical album, speech, voiceover, audio book etc., recording your work will allow you to do a number of things that can be extremely advantageous to your career. An audio file is portable, and can promote you and your art via the Internet, radio, and C.D. sales. This is not only profitable, but expedient, as you do not have to travel with the product you are promoting or selling. Also, by having a digital record of your work on our system it helps to prevent your work from being stolen. Though a recording alone does not technically copyright your music, it would provide evidence to any party concerned what, when, and where your work was done. In short, it helps to keep your work safe. Not to mention that everything that you record can be shared with loved ones or simply kept for posterity.
A. There are many ways that we can assist you as a solo artist to complete your music. If you had written your own material, studio musicians can write and record parts to fill in all of the empty spaces. We can also use digital media such as drum machines and sythesizers to add additional texture and consistency to broaden your sound and give your album a rich and full mastered polish. It goes without saying that each project will be different, but we are always open to brainstorming with you to get the job done.
A. Not necessarily. Otherside Studios was set up to make the most out of the least. It was designed with a "Plug and Play" mentality, so that you only have to bring in the basics. For example, your guitarist does not have to bring in his rig, pedals and guitar. He can simply bring in his guitar and we can fill in the rest. Your drummer can just bring sticks and brushes. Of course, we gladly invite you to bring in anything that you feel is an asset to your project but would recommend that you travel light and get a feel for what we can do for you during your free introductory session.
A. Yes we do. Our studio musicians are proficient with instruments such as guitar, bass, drums, piano, organ, horns, and backup and lead vocals. Use of their services is available upon request. We can answer all additional questions about their working with you at that time.
A. With two isolation booths, an isolated drum room, spacious live room, and lounge area there is plenty of room for everyone. While we have never had to test the theory, Otherside should be capable of holding up to thirty people at once. The rooms were designed to make the most use of all available space. We have recorded everything from solo artists to rock groups to choirs. Bring the whole family.
A. While certain musical styles are more popular than others, Otherside does not seek to specialize in any one genre. Rather, we would like to believe that there is no project or genre that cannot we cannot record. Our studio technicians are trained to adjust their ears to achieve your desired sound.
A. Essentially we use the latest edition of Pro Tools to compliment all of our hardware, as it still holds it's ground as the pro audio standard. Other programs can sometimes be integrated, but are rarely used. To put some octane in our Pro Tools engine, third party plug-ins such as IK MULTIMEDIA and Waves bundles are constantly being added to the system. Outside of Pro Tools we also use analogue mixers, preamps, equalizers, and tape reels to give your project same the glow that can be heard on vinyl and vintage recordings.
A. Yes. Do not hesitate to bring in anything you have already recorded. Old songs can be re-mastered. Anything that we can extract tracks from can be refinished or completely changed around. We have all of the equipment necessary to pull the sound out of old tapes, records, or CD's.
A. Our pricing options are geared to help you get your project completed. This studio was built to create music, not to empty your pockets. To prove that point we offer a Free Consultation Session so that you can get comfortable with the studio, lay down the tracks to your first song, and bring something home to critique (not applicable to one song demos). We are here to Feed The Artist.
